Dr. Craig Jonov–Seattle plastic surgeon–uses ultrasound assisted lymphatic massage to help treat a variety of symptoms and ailments. He proudly offers ultrasound assisted lymphatic massage to patients in the Seattle areas including the nearby communities of Kirkland and Bellevue.
There are many reasons Dr. Jonov may recommend or you may seek out an ultrasound assisted massage. For instance, Dr. Jonov typically recommends undergoing the massage after a breast augmentation or liposuction surgery at The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery. However, since the massage is meant to decrease and help relieve the side effects from surgery, any surgery patient–whether from a cosmetic or medical procedure–can benefit from an ultrasound assisted lymphatic massage.
At your consultation, Dr. Jonov can determine whether you are a good candidate for ultrasound assisted lymphatic massage.
The goal of lymphatic massage is to help reduce built up fluid in your body. The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery takes the typical lymphatic massage a step further by combining traditional lymphatic massage movements with guided ultrasound waves. Our ultrasound assisted lymphatic massage helps reduce swelling, scarring, and bruising induced by surgery or other various conditions. For post-surgery patients, this massage can help reduce pain and other uncomfortable symptoms of surgical recovery and, most importantly, promote the healing process.
The ultrasound machine provides soothing ultrasound waves in combination with therapeutic massage patterns to the surgical site, stimulating healing. In addition, the manual draining of your lymphatic system paired with directed ultrasound therapy reduces pain, swelling, bruising and helps prevent and treat capsular contracture.
Our cutting edge ultrasound technology is customizable to treat to the specific needs of each procedure and patient. It delivers varying ultrasound waves comfortably and precisely for greatest effect.

Capsular contracture is a complication that can happen anytime after breast augmentation surgery. Capsular contracture occurs when your body responds negatively to a breast implant and forms unhealthy capsule around the implant. Consequently, this will often cause the breast to feel hard and painful and can also change the size and shape of the breast. It is mostly commonly associated with breast implants, but can also occur when any foreign device is implanted in the body.
Often after performing a breast augmentation surgery, Dr. Jonov will then recommend a package of ultrasound assisted lymphatic massages for capsular contracture prevention because the massage works to loosen scar tissue and encourage blood flow to the area. This–in turn–will prevent the build up of tissue around the implant.
Beyond undergoing surgery, there are many reasons people choose to seek out an ultrasound assisted lymphatic massage including:
Dr. Jonov often recommends a package of ultrasound assisted massage to prevent capsular contracture after breast augmentation. Moreover, this many treatments has shown the best results for our patients. Dr. Jonov will custom plan your ultrasound assisted lymphatic massage protocol to fit your needs.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Our ultrasound assisted lymphatic massage works by combining a lymphatic massage to drain the fluid buildup in your body and ultrasound therapy to stimulate healing during your recovery.
The ultrasound disrupts scar tissue formation which in the case of a breast augmentation surgery helps prevent the formation of capsular contracture. Ultrasound massage can also be used to treat capsular contracture of varying grades by breaking down fibrous, unhealthy scar tissue. This lowers the chance of capsular contracture and improves general comfort during recovery.
The ultrasound guided massage stimulates the manual release of fluids trapped in your body. This will help relieve your bruising, swelling and pain from your surgery. After the massage many patients say they feel a pressure release and refreshed. Sometimes not realizing how much pain they were previously in.
Subsequently, this combination leads to a massage that will leave you feeling more comfortable during your surgical recovery and help your body work to heal your incisions or injuries. With your muscles relaxed and your swelling reduced, you will begin to feel like yourself again after surgery.
An ultrasound lymphatic massage holds many benefits for post-surgery patients, people with conditions such as fibrosis, and even for those who just want relief from sore, aching muscles. For example, a few of the benefits include:

Ultrasound massage utilizes low-power sound waves and therefore are not a risk for radiation like X-Rays and other imaging technologies. However, there are some health conditions and injuries that should not be or cannot be treated with an ultrasound. If you cannot have an ultrasound for any reason, it’s likely you already know. If you are unsure, please review the risks and benefits with your doctor.
The use of an ultrasound is perfectly safe and there are no major risks associated with ultrasounds. As a result, it is arguably one of the safest medical devices on the market. Ultrasound has a long history of use in therapeutic instances, such as to prevent and treat capsular contracture.
Some reasons an ultrasound lymphatic massage may not be right for you:
While some of these conditions or injuries do not necessarily mean you can’t have an ultrasound assisted lymphatic massage, it is best to discuss your medical history and concerns with Dr. Jonov during your consultation at The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery. He will then determine if an ultrasound assisted lymphatic massage will provide relief for your concerns and if you are a good candidate.
When you come in for your ultrasound assisted therapy appointment, you can expect for the appointment to last about 30 minutes. Firstly, one of our Master Estheticians will have you change into a treatment robe. Secondly, they will then set the ultrasound machine to the right setting for your custom treatment.
During treatment, your esthetician will apply ultrasound gel to the treatment area. Then, they will take the ultrasound’s circular wand and deliver guided ultrasound waves in conjunction with lymphatic massage techniques. The massage takes around 15-20 minutes.
Finally, once finished, your esthetician will provide a warm towel and allow you to change back into your clothes. The entire process is painless and patients often report a decrease in the uncomfortable symptoms associated with their surgery like swelling, pain, bruising and tightness. Patients receiving ultrasound massage after a breast augmentation also report a decreased rates of capsular contracture.
Our team of Master Estheticians are dedicated to helping you recover quickly and with the fewest side effects possible. They are highly skilled and value your comfort and happiness. The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery team will help you gain the results you want and work to keep you comfortable and informed throughout the whole process.
