BROW LIFT BELLEVUE AND KIRKLAND
The upper third of the face–comprised of the forehead and eyes–is responsible for a large portion of our facial expressions. Throughout our lives, we will raise, scrunch, and scowl using our brows. Over time, this can cause wrinkles and fine lines to appear, both during emoting and when static. Aging also often creates drooping and sagging eyebrows. This can cause a permanent tired or angry look that does not fit with a patient’s age or outlook. Luckily, a procedure known as a brow lift–or forehead lift–can correct these concerns. Dr. Craig Jonov of The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery performs the best brow lift Bellevue and Kirkland offers.
OVERVIEW: WHAT IS A BROW LIFT?
A brow lift is a facial plastic surgery that corrects a sagging brow and wrinkles in the upper third of the face. As aging occurs, it is not uncommon for the brows to drop below their natural position along the brow bone. The procedure also lifts the skin on the forehead by removing excess skin.
Brow lifts come in many different forms depending on the amount of correction necessary. The most frequently performed types of brow lifts include the endoscopic, coronal, direct, temporal, trans-blepharoplasty, and non-surgical options. The best technique depends on many factors such as age, skin laxity, hairline, and amount of correction needed.
What It Treats
As mentioned, a brow lift primarily treats the sagging of the brows. However, it can also address other cosmetic issues associated with aging. Among some of the conditions a brow lift can treat are:
- Forehead wrinkles
- Frown lines
- Sagging structures in the upper face
- Some correction to the upper eyelids
- Perpetually tired or angry look
- Brows that have moved below the brow bone
Ideal Candidates
The average patient age for a brow lift is between 40 and 60. This is typically when BOTOX and fillers may not provide the results patients are looking for anymore. When non-surgical methods are no longer effective, or the eyebrows noticeably droop, it may be time for a brow lift.
Beyond the cosmetic qualifications, patients should be in good general health. As long as major health conditions are well managed, they are likely a good candidate for a Bellevue brow lift. Additionally, it is best that patients do not smoke, or are willing to quit well before surgery. This is because smoking can hinder the healing process and results. Patients should also have realistic goals concerning the procedure and its outcome.
Benefits
There are many benefits of a brow lift procedure. Every patient has unique goals and motivations for surgery, therefore, some patients may see differing advantages and benefits. Some of the benefits patients may see following Bellevue brow lift surgery include:
- Smooth wrinkles and fine lines
- Lift and reposition brows into a more youthful position
- Correct and remove extra, sagging skin
- Alleviate a permanently angry or tired look
- May improve the appearance of crow’s feet
- Correct sagging upper eyelids
- Reduce signs of aging
- Short surgical time
- Can sometimes be performed under local anesthesia
- More youthful, awake appearance
- Easy to combine with other facial procedures such as a facelift, blepharoplasty, and CO2 laser resurfacing
- Complements the results of other surgeries well
BOTOX BROW LIFT: IS IT BETTER?
One of the most common non-surgical ways to slightly elevate the brow is using BOTOX injections. In younger patients not yet ready for surgery, a BOTOX brow lift is a great option. It is also helpful for patients with naturally low brows where only a small amount of correction is necessary.
A BOTOX brow lift typically only lifts the brows a few millimeters. A brow lift surgery usually involves the removal of 1 to 2 full centimeters of tissue. Therefore, if you are younger, have good skin quality, or have asymmetric brows, a BOTOX brow lift may provide the results you are looking for.
However, if you have deeper set wrinkles, saggy or loose skin, or fit within the average age range, Dr. Jonov may recommend a surgical brow lift in Bellevue. Dr. Jonov will determine if BOTOX or surgery is best for you during a consultation.
BROW LIFT BEFORE AND AFTER
Consultation
You will first meet with Bellevue plastic surgeon, Dr. Craig Jonov at your consultation. Here, he will want to know about your concerns with your appearance and goals for the procedure. Next, he will review your medical history and lifestyle. Finally, Dr. Jonov will physically examine your brow and face. During the exam, he will look at your skin laxity, any present wrinkles, and overall skin quality.
Following this consultation and examination, Dr. Jonov will recommend the treatment plan he believes will provide you with the best results. If he thinks you are a viable candidate for a brow lift, he will describe the surgery in detail.
Before leaving The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery office, you will receive a finalized price quote and financing information. At this point, you can schedule your procedure.
Surgery
On the day of surgery, you will come to The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery’s JCAHO certified surgery center. A member of your surgical team will meet with you and allow you time to change into the surgical garments.
Over the next hour or so, you will undergo a few tests to make sure you are fit for surgery. Dr. Jonov will also meet with you to review the surgical plan and make pre-operative markings. Finally, a licensed anesthesia provider will place you under general anesthesia.
The actual Bellevue brow lift technique may vary depending on various factors. Today, Dr. Jonov tends to use the least invasive methods possible and hide incisions within the hairline or your natural anatomy. During surgery, Dr. Jonov will remove excess skin and pull the remaining skin tight over your forehead. This will naturally elevate the brows into a more natural and youthful position.
Based on your needs and if you are undergoing other procedures concurrently, incisions may be above or below the brow. For example, in an endoscopic brow lift, incisions are normally made in or just above the hairline. If you are also having eyelid surgery, however, Dr. Jonov may perform most of your forehead lift through blepharoplasty incisions.
Overall, you can expect the surgery to take around one to two hours on its own. If you are undergoing a facelift or other procedure, there may be more surgical associated with your Bellevue brow lift.

Recovery
When you wake up from surgery, you can expect to feel groggy. You may notice some immediate difference in the look of your brow. This will change as swelling and bruising may set in over the coming hours and days. After a monitoring period, your caretaker will take you home the same day to begin your brow lift recovery.
As mentioned above, you can expect some minor side effects such as swelling, bruising, pain, temporary numbness, and discomfort. These should begin to subside and become concealable with makeup after about a week. Dr. Jonov will also prescribe medications post-operative to limit the risk of infection and manage pain.
Patients usually take about a week off work, though can be moderately functional at home within a few days. You should avoid exertional exercise for at least two weeks. Dr. Jonov may also give other instructions such as wearing a forehead wrap and elevating the head of your bed.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Are They Permanent?
No plastic surgery can completely stop the hands of time. While a brow lift will likely provide a more youthful appearance, as you age and your skin becomes lax again, you may see the results change. However, similar to a facelift, patients will often see their brow look better, even after further aging than if they had never undergone the procedure.
Therefore, the effects of a brow lift are close to permanent, if not totally permanent. Ultimately, it depends on your age, quality of skin, and lifestyle following the procedure.
What Is The Difference Between A Brow Lift And A Forehead Lift?
A brow lift and a forehead lift are two names for the same procedure. There is no difference between the two procedures.
How Much Does It Cost?
A brow lift with Dr. Craig Jonov at The Gallery of Cosmetic starts at $5,995. This is the starting price of the procedure and it may fluctuate depending on the specifics of the surgery. A finalized, personalized price quote will be provided following a consultation with Dr. Jonov.
What Is The Difference Between A Female And Male Brow Lift?
Men and women typically have different needs when it comes to brow lifts. In general, a woman’s brow sits higher than a male brow. Therefore, overcorrecting during a male brow lift can result in an overdone and surprised look. Consequently, under correction during a woman’s brow lift may cause a masculine look or not provide the best result.
Dr. Jonov has two decades of experience performing brow lifts on both men and women. He understands the small nuances between the differences in the male and female faces. Dr. Jonov also knows how a male patient’s and female patient’s goals tend to differ.
How Painful Is A Brow Lift?
Patients do not feel pain during brow lift surgery because they are placed under general anesthesia. During recovery, patients may feel some pain or discomfort. This is generally handled well with post-operative pain medications and remedies. Patients usually see a significant reduction in pain and discomfort within the first week of surgery. They can often return to work around the same time.
While Dr. Jonov will prescribe painkillers, many patients do not find a need for them. Additionally, most patients discontinue their use within a few days of surgery and manage with over-the-counter painkillers.
