Skin conditions like acne (and the scarring it may cause), hyperpigmentation, and signs of aging are just a few of the things that can impact your skin. The health and look of your skin–especially facial skin–may play a large role in how you feel about your appearance. Brighter, smoother skin may lead to feelings of increased confidence as you go about your day-to-day life.

The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery is excited to offer The Perfect Derma Peel to our patients. This chemical peel provides a quick, simple, and virtually pain-free way to get a radiant, even complexion without any invasive treatments or surgeries–and minimal downtime.

What Is The Perfect Derma Peel?

While most chemical peels promise to leave you with younger-looking, glowing skin, only some of them can deliver–and most aren’t of medical-grade quality. This alone sets The Perfect Derma Peel apart from the rest of the medium-depth cosmetic treatments.

The Perfect Derma Peel uses high-quality ingredients to help produce an even skin tone and texture. Glutathione, the main antioxidant in The Perfect Derma Peel, works to reduce the effects of free radicals. The products and environmental elements in our daily lives affect these oxygen molecules and cause them to become unstable, which leads to aging and damaged skin. The Perfect Derma Peel exfoliates your skin, allowing healthy skin cells to emerge and regenerate the outer skin surface that free radicals have damaged.

Who Is A Good Candidate For The Perfect Derma Peel?

Ideal candidates for The Perfect Derma Peel treatment at our Bellevue clinic are patients with hyperpigmentation, acne, wrinkles, etc. This peel provides a deep exfoliation of the skin and encourages the healing of dark spots, acne scarring, and other surface- to mid-level facial blemishes. Those with psoriasis and eczema should discuss alternative treatment options with their provider since they may not be good candidates for The Perfect Derma Peel.

The ingredients of The Perfect Derma Peel are safe for all ethnicities and skin types. Schedule a consultation with one of the providers at The Gallery Of Cosmetic Surgery to see if the healthier, brighter skin The Perfect Derma Peel can produce may be right for you.

Ingredients Of The Perfect Derma Peel

The primary ingredients of The Perfect Derma Peel act as antioxidants and exfoliants. The antioxidants help to combat hyperpigmentation and even your skin tone while increasing collagen production, which is essential to improving skin elasticity and texture. Exfoliants focus on skin cell renewal, brightening your complexion, and improving skin texture.

The Perfect Derma Peel contains the following ingredients:

  • Glutathione: The Perfect Derma Peel is the only medium-depth peel containing a powerful antioxidant called glutathione. This naturally occurring antioxidant helps to create younger, glowing skin by stimulating regeneration at a cellular level and slowing signs of aging.

  • Vitamin C: A well-known antioxidant, vitamin C promotes collagen production, which helps to even skin tone. It also combats free radicals and reverses the effects of oxidative stress (e.g., wrinkles, dull skin, etc.)
  • Kojic Acid: As an organic compound and an antioxidant, kojic acid can treat sun damage and blemishes while reducing skin pigmentation and brightening skin tone.
  • Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA): Exfoliants like TCA are high-powered ingredients in a chemical peel. TCA addresses sun damage, acne scarring, fine lines, and age spots.
  • Retinoic Acid: This exfoliant works at a cellular level to minimize pore size and acne breakouts while improving skin tone and texture and reducing lines and wrinkles.
  • Salicylic Acid: A common ingredient in acne products, this acid exfoliates the skin, reduces swelling and redness, unblocks pores, and may limit acne-causing bacteria.
  • Phenol: This medical-grade exfoliant helps treat acne scarring, age spots, and wrinkles. It also acts as a numbing agent, preventing pain during treatment.

The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery also offers two boosters to increase the effects of your chemical peel. The first booster aims to decrease hyperpigmentation by adding 4% hydroquinone. The second booster provides additional salicylic acid as well as benzoyl peroxide to combat acne breakouts. However, these boosters may not be suitable for some skin types. It’s important to discuss potential add-ons at your consultation so your provider can determine if you are a good candidate for boosters.

The Perfect Derma Peel: How It Works

Like other chemical peels, The Perfect Derma Peel causes a controlled removal of the outer layer of skin (epidermis); however, since this is a medium-depth peel, it goes beyond other peels and also removes the top of the dermis (or second layer of skin). This allows the damaged skin to peel and reveal healthy skin cells beneath it–leading to a smoother skin texture and a brighter, more even skin tone.

Consultation

Before your peel, you’ll consult with one of the providers at The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery to see what treatment may suit your skin. Since The Perfect Derma Peel is safe for most skin types, your provider may recommend this peel if you have surface to mid-level facial blemishes or hyperpigmentation.

Peel Appointment

You won’t be able to use anything on your face for a while, including SPF, so it’s a good idea to bring a hat to your appointment to protect your skin from the sun. It’s best to attend your chemical peel appointment without makeup; however, makeup can be removed before your peel.

Your master esthetician will thoroughly clean your skin to remove any remaining traces of makeup or bacteria and prep your skin before applying The Perfect Derma Peel. When your esthetician first applies the peel, you may feel a slight tingling sensation, but this should fade quickly. The application of your peel will take approximately fifteen minutes.

Peeling Process And Post-Peel Care

Remember to wear your hat after your chemical peel at our Bellevue clinic! Your skin may have a slight redness that resembles a mild sunburn; this is a typical response to a chemical peel. You will likely be able to resume your daily routine, whether you plan to return to work or run errands. Avoid exercise, heat exposure, or anything that will make you sweat (light walks are fine).

During the first several days post-peel, your skin may develop a darker, reddish tone. By the third day, you will likely see peeling begin. It’s important not to pick at or peel the skin from your face–you should allow peeling to happen naturally. The complete peeling process usually takes between three to four days, meaning you should see the results of The Perfect Derma Peel around one week post-peel appointment. If you have moderate hyperpigmentation or acne scarring, you may need more than one peel to get optimal results.

Be sure to follow all instructions from your master esthetician and those included in your patient take-home kit after each The Perfect Derma Peel treatment.

What Is The Perfect Derma Peel Patient Take-Home Kit?

Certain products can be hard on your skin post-peel. That’s why, after your chemical peel appointment, you’ll get a skincare kit to take home with you. In this kit are products to increase the effects of your peel and help you get the best possible results. You should use these products for seven days following your appointment.

The supplies in your patient take-home kit include:

  • Two post-peel towelettes
  • A 1% hydrocortisone moisturizer (1 oz.)
  • An SPF 30 (1 oz.)
  • Post-peel instructions

The post-peel towelettes will help your skin peel quickly and give you the best results. After using a towelette or cleansing your face, use the hydrocortisone moisturizer to hydrate your skin and encourage new cell development. Don’t forget to apply SPF to protect your skin from UV rays as it heals, and follow the post-peel instructions from both the take-home kit and your provider.

Side Effects Of The Perfect Derma Peel

The Perfect Derma Peel may cause a few side effects, most of which are mild and resolve on their own after several days to one week post-peel. Side effects may include:

  • Tingling at the beginning of your treatment
  • Redness
  • Swelling
  • Flakey skin
  • Skin tightness

It’s important to stick to gentle skincare products after your chemical peel to avoid causing irritation or infection. Use the products in your patient take-home kit and follow your provider’s instructions for post-peel skincare.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Is The Difference Between The Perfect Derma Peel And The VI Peel?

The VI Peel and The Perfect Derma Peel are both medium-depth treatments, meaning they cause peeling of the epidermal layer of skin and the top layer of the dermis. The treatment methods of these peels are very similar; however, there are a couple of key differences between the two.

The VI Peel contains more trichloroacetic acid (TCA), an exfoliant that may cause your skin to peel faster. This faster process may irritate the skin and cause redness, swelling, and burning.

While The Perfect Derma Peel contains TCA, it doesn’t have the same amount as the VI Peel. The Perfect Derma Peel is also the only medical-grade peel that contains glutathione, a powerful antioxidant. With the addition of glutathione, The Perfect Derma Peel may slow the signs of aging and restore a glowing skin tone.

How Long Will My Results Last?

You should see visibly improved skin seven to ten days after your chemical peel at our Bellevue clinic. These results will last as long as you practice a good skincare routine, though maintenance peels at least every six months may help rejuvenate and brighten your skin. If your skin is prone to acne or signs of aging, you may want to schedule more frequent peel treatments.

Who Is Not A Candidate For The Perfect Derma Peel?

Anyone who has skin blemishes or dull, textured skin may be a candidate for The Perfect Derma Peel. You may not be a candidate if you have skin sensitivities or conditions like eczema or psoriasis. You may also not be a candidate if you:

  • Have an autoimmune disease
  • Are undergoing radiation or chemotherapy
  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding
  • Have had an allergic reaction to any of the ingredients
  • Have any open wounds
  • Have recently had other facial treatments such as waxing, laser therapy, etc.
  • Are currently using or have used prescription acne treatment like Accutane in the past four months

Schedule a consultation with a provider at The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery to learn more about your treatment choices and if The Perfect Derma Peel is an option for you.

Is The Treatment Painful?

During the initial application of the chemical peel, you may feel a slight tingling or stinging; however, phenol–an ingredient in The Perfect Derma Peel–aids in numbing the skin and preventing pain during application. Your skin may be sensitive in the days following your appointment, but this is a common condition after chemical peels. Sensitivity should resolve after a week or so.

What Should I Avoid After The Perfect Derma Peel?

Your skin will be sensitive after a chemical peel; for this reason, it’s essential to avoid anything that is overly harsh or may irritate your skin, including:

  • Direct sunlight
  • Strenuous exercise (jogging, swimming, etc.)
  • Sweating
  • High temperatures (hot showers & baths, hot yoga, saunas, etc.)
  • Harsh skincare products
  • Facial brushes and rough, abrasive washcloths
  • Touching, rubbing, or picking your face
  • Acne treatment products
