Understanding Neuromodulators

Botulinum toxin A is a neuromodulator that selectively freezes muscle movements to treat and prevent dynamic wrinkles. While originally available only as Botox, several variations now include Dysport, Xeomin, and—most recently—Daxxify. These products use Botulinum toxin as their main ingredient, but each injectable involves small differences in formula, dosage, and treatment areas.

How Daxxify Works

Daxxify Injections From Start To Finish

Candidacy

Before undergoing Daxxify injections, patients will meet with an injector at The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery to ensure they are a good candidate for treatment. Ideal patients should be in relatively good health and want to treat the early signs of aging. If static wrinkles are present, they cannot be addressed through neuromodulator treatment, but other procedures may be an option. The injector will review the patient’s medical history, goals for the treatment, and expectations to determine candidacy.

If a patient is determined to be a good candidate, they will receive a customized price quote and can schedule their appointment. The patient may be able to undergo injections on the same day if prearranged.

Treatment 

Firstly, a nurse will disinfect the treatment area. They may apply a small amount of numbing cream; however, this is generally unnecessary. Next, the injector will ask the patient to make specific expressions to observe the wrinkle pattern. From there, the injector will use a small needle to inject the Daxxify into the relaxed muscle.

Depending on the treatment area, more than one injection may be required. The injections take only a few seconds to administer and treating an area only a few minutes. The injector may request the patient to make an expression between injections.

Results 

The results from Daxxify can appear as soon as two days after injection. Like other neuromodulators though, injectors do not consider the results final until two weeks after injection. In comparison to Botox and Dysport, the results of Daxxify can last up to between six and nine months, nearly doubling the results of other options. This will vary from patient to patient.
