CHEEK LIFT BELLEVUE AND KIRKLAND | MIDFACE LIFT BELLEVUE AND KIRKLAND
The face undergoes many changes as we age. Even with a healthy lifestyle, a good skincare routine, and always wearing sunscreen, aging and a change in facial appearance are inevitable. In fact, many of these factors are out of our control. One of these factors is genetics, which can cause many signs of aging earlier than expected or to a more severe extent. Descending structures and tissues in the face often occur due to a combination of aging and genetics. When the cheeks sag or descend, one of the top procedures to address this is a midface lift, also known as a cheek lift. The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery provides the best cheek lift Bellevue and Kirkland offers.
OVERVIEW: WHAT IS A CHEEK LIFT?
A cheek lift is a facial plastic surgery that lifts descended fat and skin in the cheeks and midface. Often, midface lift patients experience deeper nasolabial folds, a “heavy” facial appearance, and may have sagging skin. The minimally invasive procedure then lifts and repositions the fat of the cheeks into a more natural, youthful position. It may also remove extra skin if present and tighten the skin.
Similar to a facelift at The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery, a midface lift is performed on an outpatient basis in our accredited surgery center. The procedure takes anywhere from one to two hours and combines well with other facial plastic surgeries. Dr. Craig Jonov is an accomplished surgeon who has performed multiple midface lifts.
Causes
Descending fat in the cheeks can occur for a variety of reasons. However, regardless of the reasons, it often leads to cheeks that may look sunken or heavy, deeper smile lines, and a generally aged look. Depending on the reason, this can happen even in younger patients, though it is much more common in patients in their forties or fifties. Sometimes the causes of a cheek lift are influenced or caused by:
- Genetics
- Aging
- Sun damage
- Injury
- Loss of skin elasticity
- Weight loss or fluctuation
- Weakening facial muscles
Benefits & Risks
Any surgical procedure–elective or otherwise–carries both benefits and risks. While this will be discussed at length during your consultation, it is important to understand the risks of cheek lift surgery as well as the benefits.
Generally, in good candidates, the risk of a midface lift is minimal. Complications or prolonged side effects rarely happen and are typically treatable. Dr. Jonov will ensure you have a low individual risk during your consultation. During and after surgery, he will take steps to prevent any possible risks or complications. Complications and risks of cheek lift surgery can include:
- Infection
- Hematoma
- Bleeding
- Nerve damage
- Unsatisfactory result
- Asymmetry
- Necrosis
- Reactions or complications associated with anesthesia
- Changes in sensation
While it is important to understand and consider the risks of an elective procedure, the benefits also play a vital role in the decision making process. A cheek lift offers patients many benefits and the opportunity to turn back the clock on aging. Along with talking about the risks, Dr. Jonov will point out how the procedure may benefit you. Benefits and advantages of a midface lift include:
- More youthful appearance
- Increased cheek definition
- Reduces appearance of nasolabial folds
- Corrects midface sagging
- Lessens the look of wrinkles
- Tightens the skin and muscles
- Repositions descended fat pads
- Less invasive than a traditional facelift
- Minimal, well hidden incisions
- May provide some rejuvenation to the under eyes
- Relatively short surgical time
- Well tolerated recovery
Ideal Candidates
The best candidates for a cheek lift in Bellevue are overall healthy people experiencing descending midface structures. Age is not entirely a factor, as some patients may see this happen in their late twenties or early thirties. Others may not undergo a cheek lift until their sixties or later.
Good candidates generally have no or well managed health conditions and do not smoke. They understand the procedure, have realistic goals, and have anatomical structures that would benefit from midface lift surgery. Dr. Jonov can determine if you are a candidate for a Bellevue midface lift during a consultation at The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery.
BEFORE AND AFTER CHEEK LIFT
Consultation
At a consultation with Dr. Craig Jonov, he will want to garner an understanding of what you want to achieve with surgery and the concerns you have with your facial appearance. He may then ask about certain aspects of your medical history and lifestyle before conducting a brief physical exam. After this initial examination, Dr. Jonov will conclude whether or not you are a good candidate for a midface lift and if it will adequately address your needs.
If he believes you are a good candidate, Dr. Jonov will describe the procedure in detail and the results you can expect. You will also receive pricing and financing information before your leave the office. If Dr. Jonov believes you are not a good candidate, he may recommend a different procedure or alternative.
Preparing For Surgery
If you choose The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery for your Kirkland cheek lift surgery, you will meet with a pre-operative coordinator roughly three weeks before surgery. At this point, you will receive your finalized list of instructions to prepare for surgery. Some preparations may begin long before your pre-operative appointment as well. Some instructions you may receive before surgery include:
- Make necessary childcare, transportation, caregiver, and work arrangements
- Begin or discontinue medications as necessary
- Obtain financing and pay off your surgery
- Stop smoking
- Get any necessary medical clearances
- Fill prescriptions
- Do not eat or drink for several hours before surgery
Cheek Lift Surgery
After you are placed under general anesthesia, Dr. Jonov will start surgery. Typically, midface lift incisions are located either within your hairline, hair, or behind your ear. Either way, they are usually well hidden by the natural structures of your face. Dr. Jonov can better describe the location of your incisions after your consultation.
Through these incisions, Dr. Jonov will trim away extra skin, reposition descended fat pads, and tighten facial muscles. Finally, he will pull the skin taut and suture it into place. Sometimes, Dr. Jonov may perform other procedures at the same time such as chin liposuction or a full facelift.

Recovery & Aftercare
You will go home the same day as your midface lift surgery. Your caregiver will drive you home and care for you for the first twenty-four hours. Immediately after surgery, you will likely notice a difference in the look of your face. It is normal for the fat pads of the cheeks to look too high because they will settle with time and healing.
Over the next few hours and days, you may notice swelling, bruising, redness, numbness, and pain. Dr. Jonov will prescribe medications to make these possible side effects manageable. He may also recommend icing it occasionally to bring down swelling. This should resolve within two weeks.
Most patients return to work within a week and the majority of activities in another. Certain types of exercising may be prohibited for several weeks to prevent complications or damaging results. Generally, a patient can return mostly to normal life in about two weeks.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do Cheek Fillers Lift Your Face?
Cheek fillers, much like cheek implants, add volume to the cheeks and can often provide sharper, more prominent looking cheekbones. However, cheek filler can also lift the face and offer a younger appearance to some patients. If you are just beginning to see the early stages of fat descending, or have lost volume in the cheeks which is creating a sunken or heavy look, cheek filler may lift and volumize the cheeks.
Usually, this is better for younger patients who do not need a midface lift yet. Some older patients may also benefit from cheek fillers though and they can complement cheek lift results once you heal.
How Long Does A Cheek Lift Last?
Similar to a traditional facelift, a midface lift tends to last about ten to twelve years on average before your pre-surgical appearance returns. No surgical procedure can completely halt aging. However, you will still look younger in ten years after a cheek lift than if you never underwent it at all.
Can It Be Done At The Same Time As A Facelift?
Yes, though a full facelift will address the midface area as well as the lower face. While the main focus of a facelift is the lower face and neck, it does provide some correction to the midface. If Dr. Jonov performs both a full facelift and midface lift, this may be referred to as an extended facelift. This is usually only performed on patients with advanced signs of aging.
It is common to combine a cheek lift with other procedures such as:
- Cheek Augmentation
- Facial Liposuction
- Chin Augmentation
- CO2 Laser Resurfacing
- Brow Lift
- Deep Plane Facelift
- Rhinoplasty
- Dermal Fillers
- BOTOX
What Is The Right Age For A Midface Lift?
Cheek lift patients range more in age than traditional facelift patients do. This is largely because heavy cheeks can occur genetically and afflict adults of nearly any age. Usually, cheek lift patients range in age from around thirty-five to sixty.
How Much Does A Cheek Lift Cost?
A cheek lift in Bellevue starts at $7,599. This price may fluctuate depending on the specifics of your procedure and if you combine any other surgeries with it. You will receive a personalized price quote at your consultation. The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery works with three outside financing companies: Care Credit, Alphaeon, and United Medical Credit. You can find more information and direct links to apply on our financing page.
