Bellafill Bellevue & Kirkland

Dermal fillers injections are one of the top treatments for unwanted lines and folds that deepen with age. However, most fillers are temporary, lasting between three and twelve months on average. Therefore, many patients inquire about a longer lasting filler, especially after using hyaluronic acid fillers for several years. The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery offers a variety of cosmetic filler options including Bellafill, which is a filler that can last five years or more. Dr. Craig Jonov and the injectors at The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery offers the best Bellafill Bellevue and Kirkland provide.

Overview: Bellafill

Bellafill is a type of dermal filler made of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) microspheres. Polymethylmethacrylate is a material often used in the medical field for various implants and dental repairs. The microspheres are suspended in a collagen gel, making Bellafill a collagen based dermal filler.

In the weeks following Bellafill injections, the PMMA microspheres form a foundation on which your body builds new collagen. The collagen gel is absorbed, usually within two weeks of your injections. This is what allows Bellafill to last longer than any other dermal filler, the stimulation of natural collagen on top of a strong scaffolding.

The PMMA spheres help build a strong pattern of new collagen. Since the collagen produced is fully natural, it is still subject to eventual loss. However, it is a slower process due to the PMMA microspheres. This is why Bellafill is more effective and longer lasting than most other collagen stimulating, semi-permanent fillers.

Benefits & Risks

Every medical treatment and dermal filler comes with a variety of benefits and risks. Each patient will have an individual risk profile, but in general, Bellafill is a low risk procedure, and reactions to the Bellafill are rare. Patients with certain medical conditions, anatomy, or history may have a higher risk of complications with Bellafill than the average patients. Some of the risks associated with Bellafill injections include:

  • Allergic reaction (allergy testing typical performed before treatment)
  • Prolonged or excessive swelling and bruising
  • Rash
  • Lumps
  • Unusual skin reactions
  • Asymmetry
  • Unsatisfactory result
  • Itchiness
  • Excessive scarring
  • Infection
  • Occlusion (rare)
  • Nerve damage (rare)

In contrast, Bellafill has several benefits that attract patients to seek out the injectable. Among the benefits and advantages of Bellafill include:

  • FDA approval for the nasolabial folds and acne scar treatment
  • Treats the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Reduces visibility of acne scars
  • Induces natural collagen production
  • Lasts 5 years or more
  • Natural looking results
  • Can be used in multiple areas of the face
  • Addresses deeper lines and folds
  • More cost effective in the long term
  • Suitable for adults of all ages
  • Results come in quickly

Bellafill vs. Other Dermal Filler Options

Bellafill–while similar to other fillers like Sculptra and Radiesse–is unique in the way that it stimulates and builds collagen in the treatment area. When comparing Bellafill to other filler options, patients often see why Bellafill has become such a popular filler. Especially when looking at filler for the nasolabial folds and other areas. The table below details some of the major differences between Bellafill and other dermal fillers.

BellafillOther Dermal Fillers
  • Lasts 5 years or more
  • Requires allergy testing
  • Stimulates body’s collagen in addition to leaving behind a scaffold for optimal results
  • May require multiple sessions for the initial results
  • Often uses a cannula over a needle
  • Higher cost, but fewer injections needed
  • On average lasts one to two years
  • Some to no collagen stimulation
  • Filler fully metabolized eventually
  • Multiple refresh sessions are required at least once or twice a year
  • May use a cannula or a needle
  • More treatment areas
  • Lower upfront cost, but larger long term cost

Even with many differences, the injections will look largely the same. Additionally, they are each administered in quick appointments, in-office, with topical numbing, and have lidocaine in their formulas.

Before & After Bellafill Injections

Before

The first appointment you will have concerning Bellafill in Bellevue will be a consultation with one of our injectors. At this consultation, you and your injector will discuss your goals, medical history, and filler options. They may also perform a physical exam of the area. The discussion and examination will help them ensure you are a good candidate for Bellevue Bellafill injections.

If they believe you are a good candidate, they will then perform allergy testing. This needs to be done about four weeks prior to your injection. Therefore, if you are deemed a good candidate, your injector may carry out allergy testing on the same day. Immediately after your consultation, you will schedule your injection date.

The allergy test involves injecting a tiny amount of Bellafill just below the skin. Over the coming weeks, you will monitor the site for signs of an allergic reaction which may include rash or itching. You will keep a record on a card that will be provided for you. If you are unsure or have questions, your injector can help.

During

Assuming your allergy test shows no signs of reaction, your injector will proceed with Bellafill injections. While Bellafill is used in various areas, the most common place is the nasolabial folds. Before injecting your injector will disinfect the area and apply topical numbing cream.

Gently inserting the cannula, your injector will use the tunneling method to inject the filler into the skin. The outline of the needle will remain visible under the skin, but the needle itself will not. The injections take around ten to fifteen minutes once they begin.

Due to the topical anesthetic and lidocaine in the formula, the injections are generally not too uncomfortable. Patients can expect a quick pinch, some slight pressure, and some initial discomfort following the injection. Discomfort will likely slowly diminish throughout the procedure. Most patients remain extremely comfortable.

    After

Immediately following your Bellafill treatment, you will likely notice a difference in the area. However, the final results will continue to come in over a few weeks as the collagen is absorbed by the body.. You may notice some mild side effects such as minor swelling, bruising, redness, and itchiness. These side effects are not usually too troublesome and should go away quickly.

You can return to your normal activities immediately. Your injector may recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, submerging the treatment area, and getting the skin too hot for a day or two. This prevents infections and excessive bruising or swelling.

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Is Bellafill Safe?

Bellafill is FDA approved for filling the nasolabial folds and acne scars. It is used all around the world and has a safety record better than many hyaluronic acid fillers. Much of the safety involves choosing an experienced and qualified provider like those at The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery.

    Where Can You Use Bellafill?

Bellafill can be used in a variety of places and in almost any of the places traditional fillers are. Some of the places patients can receive Bellafill injections include:

    • Nasolabial folds (smile lines)
    • Cheeks
    • Under eyes
    • Temples
    • Chin
    • Acne scars

    Can It Be Reversed?

No, unlike hyaluronic acid fillers that have a reversal agent, Bellafill is not easily reversible. This is why it is used sparingly and often in patients experienced with other types of fillers. The only way to truly reverse Bellafill (and which still offers no guarantee) is surgery. Therefore, choosing the right provider and ensuring you are a good candidate is vital.

Is It Good At Treating Acne Scars?

Yes, Bellafill is the only dermal filler FDA approved to fill in acne scarring. Due to the longevity of results, natural appearance, and good safety profile, it is an ideal filler for acne scars.

How Much Are Bellafill Injections In Bellevue?

Bellafill starts at $1,200 for one session and $3,500 for three sessions. After your injector can gauge your needs, you will receive a more accurate idea of the price. The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery does work with three outside financing companies: Alphaeon, Care Credit, and United Medical Credit.
