EN BLOC BREAST IMPLANT RESECTION IN SEATTLE
For women who receive a breast augmentation, most are happy with their breast implants and intend to keep them for their lifetime. However, some women seek the removal of their breast implants. En bloc breast implant resection is the removal of breast implants and the scar tissue that forms around the implant. It takes a skilled plastic surgeon to perform an en bloc procedure. Dr. Jonov at The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery is happy to offer en bloc breast implant resection to the residents of the Seattle, Bellevue, and Kirkland areas.
Can I Have My Implants Replaced During The Procedure?
Yes, many women who choose to have their implants removed due to a desire to change the size or type of their implants have their implants replaced during an en bloc breast implant resection. There is no need for further surgery to place new implants.
IS EN BLOC BREAST IMPLANT RESECTION ALWAYS NECESSARY?
Breast implant removal is not always necessary. For those who choose to remove their implants permanently or replace them, this is another elective surgery like the original breast augmentation surgery.
However, for women who have faced complications, it may be necessary to remove your implants. For example, if you are experiencing pain from capsular contracture or if the implant ruptured, there is often no other choice than to perform an en bloc breast implant resection.
Dr. Jonov may recommend other treatments before deciding to recommend en bloc breast implant resection to you. Ultrasound assisted lymphatic massages may assist in capsular contracture cases and may prevent you from needing surgery.
WHY EN BLOC BREAST IMPLANT RESECTION?
Breast Implant Related Illness:
While it is extremely rare, some women experience a negative reaction to their breast implants known as breast implant related illness. The exact cause of this is not fully known. But, for many women with breast implant related illness, some doctors disbelieve or tell them it is not related to their breast implants. Finding a doctor who believes their symptoms and struggle is frustrating at best. At The Gallery of Cosmetic Surgery, we listen to your concerns and work to find the best treatment plan for you.
In most cases of breast implant related illness, it requires an en bloc breast implant resection. In this surgery, Dr. Jonov makes a short incision in the inframammary fold, the crease where the breast meets the chest. Through this incision, Dr. Jonov will pull out the implant along with the thin layer of white scar tissue that surrounds it. After your implants are removed, Dr. Jonov will place new implants if desired, and close the incision using sterile surgical sutures.
Beyond breast implant related illness, there are many reasons women seek the removal of their breast implants. A woman’s reasons for wanting an en bloc breast implant resection are her own, but there are many instances where women must seek implant removal or when they commonly seek out removal such as:
- Desire to change implant size or type
- Capsular contracture
- Rupture or leak
- Rippling
- Implants are over 20 years old
- Desire to no longer have implants
- Other health problems that require implant removal
TYPES OF BREAST IMPLANT REMOVAL
There are multiple surgical procedures when it comes to removing your breast implants and treating certain complications. En bloc is largely preferred in most situations, but understanding the difference between these procedures can help you make informed decisions about your breast implant removal.
Capsulectomy:
Commonly used to treat capsular contracture, this procedure removes some of the scar tissue surrounding the implant. The breast implants are typically not removed during this procedure
Total Capsulectomy:
Like above, this surgery is used to treat capsular contracture, but this procedure removes all of the scar tissue from the implant. Sometimes this requires the removal of the implant.
Capsulotomy:
This procedure (performed open or closed) breaks down the tissue around the breast implant. In an open procedure this requires the full removal of the implant. A capsulotomy comes with a higher risk of rupture.
WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE?
Nearly any woman who has undergone a breast augmentation is a candidate for en bloc breast implant resection. It is important to consider whether you and your body can withstand another surgery. The best time to undergo an en bloc breast surgery is when it is necessary for your comfort, health, or because your breast implants have become a burden to your routine.
It is important to discuss your symptoms and reasons for wanting your breast implants removed with Dr. Jonov. He will determine if surgery is the correct course of action to address your needs.
Why Is En Bloc Usually Preferred?
When seeking the removal of your breast implants, an en bloc procedure is preferred because it comes with a lower risk of rupturing the implant than in other types of scar tissue and implant resection. Removing the entire implant along with the scar tissue is an all around safer surgery and prevents complications.
After an en bloc breast implant removal, most women’s breasts do return to their original size and shape. When an en bloc breast implant resection is performed by a board-certified and experienced surgeon like Dr. Jonov
WHAT IS RECOVERY LIKE FOLLOWING SURGERY?
Recovery following en bloc breast implant resection is similar to the original breast augmentation surgery. Dr. Jonov will create a specific recovery plan for you and your surgery. Within a few days of surgery, you will come in for your post-op appointment to check the incision and ensure you are healing correctly.
Unlike with the recovery from your breast augmentation surgery, recovery after an en bloc breast implant resection is typically about a week. Exercising and strenuous activities are limited and it is recommended you take the entire week off work, but following a successful recovery, most patients who had their implants removed return to work and their normal activities a week or so after surgery.
WILL MY BREASTS LOOK THE SAME AS BEFORE AUGMENTATION?
Before undergoing an en bloc breast implant resection, many women wonder if their breasts will return to their natural size and shape. After an en bloc breast implant removal, most women’s breasts do return to their original size and shape. When an en bloc breast surgery is performed by a board-certified and experienced surgeon like Dr. Jonov, en bloc procedures are successful and simply return the breast to its original contour.
Occasionally, a patient may require a breast lift to obtain a natural breast contour. Dr. Jonov will discuss this with you based on various factors. Thankfully, Dr. Jonov can perform the en bloc technique with a breast lift or auto augmentation.
HOW MUCH DOES AN EN BLOC IMPLANT RESECTION COST?
An en bloc breast implant resection at Seattle Plastic Surgery begins at $8,500, but will vary depending upon if you are replacing your implants and your specific surgery needs. This cost covers facility fees, operation room fees, anesthesia costs, pre-operative and post-operative appointments, and the cost of the procedure itself.
